Finally got a video of a hummingbird moth!

@elodieunderglass seems like something you’d appreciate

I do really love these guys. I remember observing one when I was quite young, having never seen one in a book or TV or anything, and being absolutely transfixed by it. “That is a moth,” I understood from its characteristics, “but it is behaving like a hummingbird.” I wasn’t sure exactly WHAT this meant so I watched it very carefully, unsure if some kind of revelation was at hand. When it left I mentioned it to my mother, who simply accepted without interest that there had been a moth that hovered like a hummingbird.

I went inside and took out a large dictionary. With no hope- actually rather thinking I’d maybe discovered a sort of miniature unicorn - I looked up “hummingbird moth.” When I found it I just sat there for a long time, amazed that anyone else had experienced the same thought.
